Despite an overabundance of Barney, the big purple dinosaur, Pokemon (the original), and far too many trips to Chuck E. Cheese, I am more than thankful for my children. Being a mom and nurturing them has taught me a lot about who I am, and who I want to be.
I didn’t think I’d survive 1997 through 2010 as they all passed through the dreaded TEEN YEARS. Now, as I look back on those days, I see them as some of the best times of our lives. We were an active family – church choir, school choir, band, orchestra, drama club, community volunteering, and PTA kept us on the move. But, we were never too busy to sit down for an epic Uno battle!
As adults out on their own, they continue to make me proud as they distinguish themselves in their individual endeavors. Still, they’re never too busy to text me a happy face or joke or tag me in a ridiculous post on Facebook.
Known as David, Andrew, and Lindsey to the world, they will always be Havoc, Chaos and Mayhem to me, and the main reasons I smile.
This holiday season will be our last together for a while as military assignments and job transfers will once again separate us in the new year. I’m looking forward to our family time together…and yes, there will be Uno!
