#Review “The Big Event” by Anne John-Ligali

The Big Event cover

~ Review ~

Told from the viewpoint of author Constance Jeffries, this quick read could resonate with just about anyone who’s spent time on the Internet…and made a friend.

Excited, Constance arrives at a Christmas party, about to meet some of the people she considers friends online. Since it’s her POV, we get her opinions, which is fine. But for someone who’s anxious and nervous to meet ‘friends’, her overall opinions don’t seem complimentary even before she spots them at the party.

This says as much about Constance as her views of her friends. What/who exactly was she expecting? How did she get it wrong?

This is a quick but good exploration of character and personality, and how things… and people, aren’t always as we believe them to be.

Looking forward to part 2, The Weekend Spa Break.

The Big Event cover

You are cordially invited to the party of the season where you’ll meet Constance and friends in action.

Constance Jeffries is excited when she gets the chance to meet up with virtual friends at a get-together in a London hotel. She’s been tweeting and messaging her lovely friends for years and feels they must be just as excited to finally meet her in person too. Or so she hopes.

The Big Event is the first part in a short story series about the importance of ‘real’ friendships and how it’s the little things that matter the most.

Why I don’t use Beta Readers #WriterWednesday #AmWriting

Unfortunately, writing isn’t always sunshine and unicorns! 😏😉

D.E. Haggerty

As many of you know, I’ve just finished the draft of my latest novel (insert shameless plug for new novel here). Now that the manuscript is off to the editor, it should be time to send the ARC to beta readers. Notice me rushing off to do that? No? That’s because I no longer use beta readers. Oh, the shame! Who the hell do I think I am not using beta readers?!?

I could go into a long background story of all the mistakes I’ve made with beta readers and even the heartbreaking story of losing a good friend over it all, but I’m just going to get to the heart of the matter.

Beta Reader _1

Reasons I don’t use Beta Readers:

Timing. In order to plan my book marketing properly, there is a two-month gap between the time I finish the novel and it goes to the editor…
