The theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “stay.”

~~~~~~~~~~
Of course, I couldn’t resist this one! 😀 😀
ANOTHER disco smash hit!
Landing at #189 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list, the Bee Gees Stayin’ Alive was supposed to carry the same name as the hit movie it opened… Saturday Night Fever. But the Brothers Gibb felt there were already too many songs with ‘Saturday’ in the title, and a song from the album already included the word fever… Night Fever.
The hit-making brothers won the song naming battle (vs. the record company) and Stayin’ Alive was released December 13, 1977. By the first week of February in 1978, the song was #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and stayed there for four weeks. The song also ranked #9 on the American Film Institute’s 100 Years… 100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema.
The single was the second in six consecutive number-one songs for the Bee Gees, tying the Beatles’ record—a record later broken by Whitney Houston who achieved seven consecutive number-one songs.
FUN FACT – The song’s disco beat of 120 beats per minute coincides the heartbeat of your heart when you’re excited. This was a key thing which underlined the whole tune, and when the vocals came in, the vocals were so designed that they pushed that beat further.
FUN FACT #2 – Sole surviving Gibb brother, Barry, will be SEVENTY-TWO in September 2018.
The video featuring Saturday Night Fever clips is the popular video but I prefer the one featuring the Bee Gees in all their pre-1980s glory, so I posted both!
Enjoy!
Stayin’ Alive
by the Bee Gees
Written by The Bee Gees
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I’m a woman’s man: no time to talk
Music loud and women warm, I’ve been kicked around
Since I was born
And now it’s all right, it’s okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times’ effect on man
Whether you’re a brother or whether you’re a mother
You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Feel the city breakin’ and everybody shakin’
And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive
Well now, I get low and I get high
And if I can’t get either, I really try
Got the wings of heaven on my shoes
I’m a dancin’ man and I just can’t lose
You know it’s all right, it’s okay
I’ll live to see another day
We can try to understand
The New York Times’ effect on man
Whether you’re a brother or whether you’re a mother
You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Feel the city breakin’ and everybody shakin’
And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah, I’m stayin’ alive
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I’m a woman’s man: no time to talk
Music loud and women warm
I’ve been kicked around since I was born
And now it’s all right, it’s okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times’ effect on man
Whether you’re a brother or whether you’re a mother
You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Feel the city breakin’ and everybody shakin’
And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I’m stayin’ alive
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I’m stayin’ alive
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I’m stayin’ alive
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I’m stayin’ alive
  1. I remember when the movie and the song came out. I think I saw the movie 5 times! Though in those days you could afford it and there were no such things as DVD’s, Blu-ray, Netflix, etc. so it was always at the theatre. The album was constantly on my turntable to a point where I was afraid the needle was going to wear right through! Great choice…but now I have that high shrill and bass beat in my head.
      1. Even if you’re not a fan of disco, I think this song in particular is an exception to everyone’s rule! LOL I played it again when I had to walk away and do the dishes LOL my oldest was in the living room shaking his head at me, but I bet he was dancing in his seat LMAO
