Song Lyric Sunday | “Demons” by Daughtry & Jencarlos

Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati from This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time. For complete rules or to join in the fun, click here.

The theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “demons/devils.”

~~~~~~~~~~
Despite being a top ten hit in 2013 for rockers Imagine Dragons and spending more than a year on Billboards Hot 100 (61 weeks), I was unfamiliar with their song Demons, until it was included in the 2016 Easter special, The Passion.
Sung as a duet by Chris Daughtry (Judas) and Jencarlos (Christ), it appears just before Christ is taken into custody.
My oldest son told me about the Imagine Dragons original, and it’s nice, but I prefer the raw, grittiness of Daughtry’s voice in The Passion-version.
Enjoy!
Demons
by Daughtry & Jencarlos from The Passion
Songwriters: Alex da Kid, Josh Mosser, Ben McKee, Wayne Sermon, Daniel Platzman & Dan Reynolds
When the days are cold and the cards all fold
And the saints we see are all made of gold
When your dreams all fail and the ones we hail
Are the worst of all and the blood’s run stale
I want to hide the truth, I want to shelter you
But with the beast inside, there’s nowhere we can hide
No matter what we breed, we still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come, this is my kingdom come
When you feel my heat, look into my eyes
It’s where my demons hide, it’s where my demons hide
Don’t get too close, it’s dark inside
It’s where my demons hide, it’s where my demons hide
At the curtain’s call is the last of all
When the lights fade out, all the sinners crawl
So they dug your grave and the masquerade
Will come calling out at the mess you made
Don’t want to let you down, but I am hell bound
Though this is all for you don’t want to hide the truth
No matter what we breed, we still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come, this is my kingdom come
When you feel my heat, look into my eyes
It’s where my demons hide, it’s where my demons hide
Don’t get too close, it’s dark inside
It’s where my demons hide, it’s where my demons hide
They say it’s what you make, I say it’s up to fate
It’s woven in my soul, I need to let you go
Your eyes, they shine so bright, I want to save their light
I can’t escape this now, unless you show me how
    I loved this song when Imagine Dragons first put it out, but then it got so overplayed I stopped wanting to hear it. But, I do like Daughtry’s voice for this cover! 🙂
    Love this song! I keep thinking I’ve heard it before, and maybe it was the Imagine Dragons version. Both are super and the lyrics…oh my, gives me chills! 🙂
    I can see what you’re saying about Daughtry’s voice; however, I am in love with the original and this one just isn’t the same for me. I’ve shared the Imagine Dragon’s version on my blog before. The lyrics are fantastic and it’s interesting how they used it in the video. Thank you so much for sharing!
