Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati from This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time. For complete rules or to join in the fun, click here.

The theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “to post a song with a metaphor in the title or lyrics.”

~~~~~~~~~~
Can’t think of a better metaphoric title than Love Is a Battlefield sung by rock queen, Pat Benatar and written by Holly Knight and Mike Chapman. It was released in September 1983 as a single from Benatar’s live album Live from Earth, though the song itself was a studio recording. It ranked at number 30 in VH1’s list of the 100 Greatest Songs of the 1980s. Love is a Battlefield went on to sell over a million records, and in 1984, the song won Benatar her fourth consecutive Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
Enjoy!
Love is a Battlefield
by Pat Benatar
Songwriters:
[Intro/ Chorus 1]
(We are young)We are young
(Heartache to heartache)Heartache to heartache
(We stand)We stand
(No promises)No promises
(No demands)No demands
(Love is a battlefield)Love is a battlefield
[Chorus 2]
We are strong
No one can tell us we’re wrong
Searching our hearts for so long
Both of us knowing
Love is a battlefield
[Verse 1]
You’re begging me to go
Then making me stay
Why do you hurt me so bad
It would help me to know
Do I stand in your way
Or am I the best thing you’ve had
Believe me
Believe me
I can’t tell you why
But I’m trapped by your love
And I’m chained to your side
[Chorus 1]
(We are young)We are young
(Heartache to heartache)Heartache to heartache
(We stand)We stand
(No promises)No promises
(No demands)No demands
(Love is a battlefield)Love is a battlefield
[Chorus 2]
We are strong
No one can tell us we’re wrong
Searching our hearts for so long
Both of us knowing
Love is a battlefield
[Verse 2]
When I’m losing control
Will you turn me away
Or touch me deep inside
And when all this gets old
Will it still feel the same
There’s no way this will die
But if we get much closer
I could lose control
And if your heart surrenders
You’ll need me to hold
[Chorus 1]
(We are young)We are young
(Heartache to heartache)Heartache to heartache
(We stand)We stand
(No promises)No promises
(No demands)No demands
(Love is a battlefield)Love is a battlefield
[Chorus 2]
We are strong
No one can tell us we’re wrong
Searching our hearts for so long
Both of us knowing
Love is a battlefield
[Verse 2]
When I’m losing control
Will you turn me away
Or touch me deep inside
And when all this gets old
Will it still feel the same
There’s no way this will die
But if we get much closer
I could lose control
And if your heart surrenders
You’ll need me to hold
    Pat Benatar was my first concert. I almost picked this one😁. I saw her “Crimes Of Passion” tour. Hit Me With Your Best Shot…. Great song! Awesome pick!
    I love your song and you are correct about this being a perfect metaphor.
