Meet Lizzie Martin from the Wendy Woo Witch Lit Series!
Hi, I’m Lizzie and I’m a witch. Not that I wear a pointy hat and travel to work on a broomstick. In fact, unless you get to know me well, you would never know but I live my life following the Sacred Wheel of the Year and use magic in my daily life. I might draw a single card from my Tarot pack, set a candle spell working or consult with Cerridwen and her cauldron but even if my focus is not on a magical act or ritual, the Wheel turns and I move with it.
Rowan, my fifteen-year-old daughter, and I still live in our old house, despite Marsha, my mother-in-law’s generous inheritance, and I’ve spent the past months since Christmas trying to follow a path I believe will be my new career. I’ve coped with burglaries instigated by Edward Brown my old boss, interference from my ex-husband Josh, who’s decided after ten years that he does want a relationship with his daughter while embarking on a new relationship with George, a former soldier who lives in a cottage in a wood near me.
And I’ve discovered my parents weren’t my parents. Well, Dad was Dad but the woman I’d tried to make love me was actually my aunt who despised me. She didn’t like Dad much either but both of them were manipulated by Edward Brown. That was a shock I can tell you! The connection was there but it took my Dad’s sister, my Aunt Matilda to tell me the whole story.
Louise and I grow closer every day. She’s a great friend, raven-haired and vivacious, completely different from me but they say opposites attract. She’s kind, that’s why I like her and Ingrid has become a friend too, Jess, Rowan’s friend’s Mum, a woman with the energy and enthusiasm of a lit Catherine Wheel!
The chickens have been naughty, but that’s chickens for you and if Robbie and Stardust hadn’t snuggled up in their love nest in the alley, Cariad, the black kitten, wouldn’t now be a permanent fixture on my shoulder and a big part of our lives.
I’ve been back to Wales to see my half brother and sister, Jack and Finola, discovering where our real mother lives and while in Cornwall, George and I began to communicate, learning about each other and the past that has influenced our lives so much.
There’s been magic, of course, a particular seven card Tarot spread shining light and understanding on family and relationship issues, but the most magical day these past few months was the day I saw my real mother for the very first time.
Lizzie Martin has chosen pottery to be her new career…
But the teacher from hell threatens to thwart her ambitions before she starts.
She has support from her best friend Louise and Evan, another pottery tutor, but Rowan, her fifteen-year-old daughter is restless, Josh, her ex-husband is colluding with her aunt and though her mother is alive, access to her is forbidden. When The Morrigan appears in her sacred circle, Lizzie knows she has a battle on her hands.
There is hope though.
Stardust the chicken brings a new creature into Lizzie’s life and a long-awaited meeting with her Aunt Matilda brings Lizzie’s past into perspective.
Lizzie’s magic ventures beyond The Sanctuary, into the Welsh landscape and the realms of the fae.
