Rock star, River Jackson, is back in his hometown of Glastonbury to open a cocktail bar… and coverthe locals aren’t impressed.

Seductive Georgina is proving too hot to handle; band mate, Angelic Alice, is messing with his heart and his head; his mum is a hippie-dippy liability; his school friends have resorted to violence – oh, and his band manager, Lennie, AND the media are on his trail.

But River is armed with a magical Mexican elixir which will change the lives of the Three Chosen Ones. Once the Mexican wave of joy takes a hold of the town, he’s glad he didn’t lose his proverbial bottle.

Pity he hasn’t taken better care of the real one.

Meet Isabella May!

Thank you for spending a little time with us here on the blog today!

Well, thank you for inviting me!

Where are you from?

I was born in Somerset and spent my childhood in Glastonbury, so technically, the ley lines of Avalon… but I have also lived in Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham, France and Germany. And, as I have spent the last 7 years living on the Costa del Sol in Spain, I guess you could say that I’m from a strange fusion of all of those places!

Married with children, pets, or annoying roommates?

Married with two children here and one very sadly in heaven – our second baby was stillborn.

Are you self-published, traditional, or hybrid?

I’m traditionally published with a small independent publisher called Crooked Cat Books. They’re very lovely, as are my fellow authors there – a huge mix of genre and storytelling talent.

How long have you been a writer?

For as long as I could hold a crayon.

How long did it take you to write your first book?

Approximately 7 years from initial brainstorming through to honing my craft!

Pantser or Plotter?

I’m a dreamer and a pantser. I have a rough idea of where the story is going but then my characters take over and I let them lead the way.

Have you ever taken the NaNoWriMo Challenge?

No. I am always writing and so it would only appeal to me if I was finishing up one novel on 31st October… and about to start a new one the very next day.

What’s your favorite genre to write or do you only write in one genre?

I love to mix romantic comedy with a little magical realism, and food (and drink) always take centre stage.

What’s your favorite genre to read?
That depends on my mood, but my go-to books normally have to be uplifting and empowering. Very occasionally I’ll crave a good psychological thriller though.

What are you reading now?
Paulo Coelho’s The Winner Stands Alone. It’s a lot grittier than The Alchemist but very thought-provoking!

Favorite beverage to read with?
Coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon, Baileys on a winter’s night, an Aperol Spritz on a summer’s night.

Where do you get the most writing done?
I have to milk my writing opportunities when I can with two young children who finish school WAY too early (at 2pm!) so anywhere and everywhere: my desk, the car park, cafes… absolutely anywhere goes.

Totally addicted to social media or could you live without it?
I am trying to use it less and less! We can’t get UK TV in Spain and I honestly don’t miss it, so, you know what… I think I could just about live without it. As long as I had books – okay, and cake, and alcohol!

What’s the inspiration behind your latest release? Who’s your favorite character?
Well, The Cocktail Bar has been out for a year now, so this book blog tour is to celebrate its first birthday. I got the idea to write this story by asking myself a question:

‘What if… a cocktail bar opened up on Glastonbury High St?’

How would the locals react?

I would have given anything for a cocktail bar when I grew up in the town. We had to escape to the cities for a half-decent night out, so I had a lot of fun writing this novel and letting my imagination run away with me.

My favourite character is definitely River Jackson. He’s a former indie rock star who comes back to Glastonbury to follow his true calling, being a mixologist behind his very own bar. I think I’m spontaneous… but this guy takes impulse to a whole new level!

What’s your next project or release?
My fourth book is currently out with a handful of big publishers who have open submissions. I’m visualizing like mad that it’ll get snapped up soon!!! It’s a heady yet humorous story of jealousy (between twin sisters), gelato, Bath (and rugby), Capri and past life regressions.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write every single day. Learn the ‘rules’ and then delight in breaking them. It’s the only way to uncover your unique writing voice.

Thanks for stopping by, Isabella, and happy book birthday to The Cocktail Bar!
