ReleaseBlitz “His Forever” by Aria Cole, Mila Crawford

Mitchell Holden was Hollywood’s it man. Everyone wanted a piece of him.

He was living the life and riding high on success until a late night phone call sent his world spinning.

Mitch played characters that became cult classics with ease,

but the one role he wasn’t ready for was playing the part of father to a kid who wasn’t even his.

Anna O’Rourke would do anything for children in need. She’d dedicated her life to helping kids in the system.

Her once in a lifetime assignment isn’t what she expected.

The Jane Doe baby she’s been assigned to might just be related to Hollywood’s leading man.

Becoming overnight parents isn’t easy for anyone, not even a seasoned social worker or a man who’s got the world at his fingertips.

Anna and Mitch come from two different worlds, but find common ground in the little girl they both love.

Mitch

I liked it better when you couldn’t get Wi-Fi in the air. Now even on a transatlantic flight to Japan, I can’t escape my agent. She’s like a goddamned predator in Hollywood. Not that I’m complaining about the roles she gets me or the price she has me command, but sometimes a guy just needs a little downtime——like seventeen hours to catch some desperately needed z’s.

Mitchell Holden, pick up your phone!

I toss the latest iPhone onto the empty seat behind me and ring the call button for some Scotch. The seat reclines all the way into a bed, and I let it go all the way back, despite just having ordered a drink. Press junkets make me crazy—a whirlwind trip to every international hub in less than a week. I just want it over and done with, and I don’t care that Marina Ovard wants to brief me on who will be meeting me for press or interviewing me after the screening. I wish I had an assistant, someone to pick up the slack. I guess it’s Marina’s job, but she drives me crazy with her hounding. Maybe what I need is a body double.

******

I tear the sleep mask from my eyes as the jet bounces down in Tokyo. I sit up with a smile and feel proud of myself for squeezing in so much shuteye. After freshening up in the bathroom, I retrieve my phone. Ten thousand missed texts from Marina—as is to be expected.

Your arrival has been leaked. Expect pandemonium at Haneda.

FML, I text back to her.

Now I’ve got to muster a ten-million-dollar smile because my deplaning will be all over the news. The premiere isn’t until tomorrow, so maybe I can catch some downtime at the hotel before nonstop interviews and appearances until we leave for Australia tomorrow night.

Holden, this film could have been a catastrophe without the right names attached. Misty will meet you at the theater. Please try to act like you like her—it sells more tickets!

Act like I like Misty Ford. Piece of fucking cake. Even though her voice grates on me and her insipid smile makes me feel dubious about whether or not there’s a brain in her head. I don’t care that she modeled for Victoria’s Secret or scores cosmetics deals with higher price tags than most professional athletes. She’s a vacant shell who can’t even have a decent conversation about food, or feminism, or politics—the woman is the definition of an airhead.

I wonder if all the dudes in garages and basements and bachelor pads across America would take down their posters of her in a bikini if they could just have a conversation with her. Probably none of them. I’ll take a woman who is interesting and has more to lean on than a pretty face over a hot piece of ass any day.

But Marina likes me to play nice, to pretend I’m hanging on every word Misty says. “Put a hand on the small of her back as you walk toward the interview. Whisper something cute in her ear so she blushes on camera.” Sometimes I feel like my whole fucking life is orchestrated by Marina Ovard. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not complaining. Thank God for Marina, and thank God for my career. A lot of people run away to Hollywood, praying for the technicolor dream—very few of them actually ever make a living off their craft. Most people end up selling out, especially the people who come from my kind of background.

My mother died when I was four and my little sister Karina was just two. But I’m grateful for that too because at least she didn’t have to sit around and watch my dad deteriorate. Witness him going from a successful farmer to an alcoholic as the fields dried up. Our house went from quaint and cozy when my mother was alive to derelict and downright hazardous by the time I was in high school. I tried my best to look out for both of them, I really did, but Dad drank away every check until, eventually, we even lost the shitty house I grew up in.

As for Karina, she was a mess by the ninth grade. It’s a wonder the authorities didn’t take her in, considering she ran away as much as she did. I got a full-time job the second I graduated high school. We were living in a low-income apartment complex by that time. It looked like a strip mall—laundromat and liquor store just steps from the front door. At least my father wasn’t driving anymore. When I moved to LA, I promised Karina and my dad I’d come back for them as soon as I could. Problem was, by the time I got enough cash saved working as a stunt double, Karina was gone.

I sent dear old Dad a check every month, more than enough to move out of the dump. But by that time, the man was a zombie. The alcohol had gotten to his brain and affected his cognition. He just wanted to drink—to die in his chair with his bourbon and bad television.

I’d tried begging him to go to rehab, and he’d looked at me like I was crazy.

“Son, California done went and turned you into a fruit! What am I gonna do? Play guitar in front of the fire with those folks? Drinking health smoothies? I’d rather shoot myself in the foot than go to your camp.”

“Great, because that’s essentially what you’re doing, Dad. Karina isn’t coming back. Neither is Mom. This is your last chance to make something of this life. I already paid the down payment for your spot.”

“I’m not gonna go sing ‘Kumbaya’ with a bunch of addicts. That’s what got your sister so screwed up. Those pills are the devil’s work.”

My dad sure had a disparaging opinion about addicts for being one himself. He stayed in Kentucky no matter how hard I tried to persuade him to reach for something else.

Karina was another matter. As soon as I had the money, I hired a private investigator to look for her. The leads were few and far between, and the detective told me it’s nearly impossible to find those who don’t want to be found. She was off the grid. Addicts didn’t leave behind paper trails.

So I trudged on ahead, working flick after flick and making more than enough to get by as a stunt double. That all changed when I walked on set to film my first stand-in as Milan Chamberlain’s body double. Chamberlain was an established star. He lorded over Hollywood blockbusters like no one else, and me, Mitch Holden…well, let’s just say that I wasn’t the first to notice we looked more than a little bit alike. Marina was his agent. It was the first time I’d met her on set. She was a fucking cyclone and wouldn’t take less than a hundred and ten percent. She liked my work ethic, Kentucky boy through and through.

“You know, you’ve got more charisma than Chamberlin. That boy’s swagger is painted on in makeup, but I know the real deal when I see it. You’ve got star power, kid, trust me.”

I really didn’t trust her. She was one of those Hollywood powerhouses who would bulldoze through delicate situations. But by wrap time, she was drawing up a contract, having me come in for screen tests, and getting me new headshots.

The rest is history. I skyrocketed to fame in less than a year, scoring the roles Chamberlain had originated and making bigger bank for the same superhero franchises. From that December to the following April, I became a household name. Everyone wants fame, but no one talks about the stress of it. Every second of my life was micromanaged, and I jumped when they said jump. After I bought my first house in Los Feliz, I put all of my money into finding my sister Karina and getting my dad some help. You better believe I had skeletons in my closet that Marina hid from the public. I was a leading man, and showing the stains of my past, Marina assured me, could blow my future before it even started.

EVERYTHING’S BETTER WITH KIMBERLY BY LUCY EDEN

Keeping their relationship strictly professional for the sake of their jobs was the perfect excuse to stay away from each other. Too bad fate and undeniable chemistry have other plans…

What happens when fate or dumb luck keeps throwing two workaholics, who’ve sworn off love, together in one of the most beautiful places on the planet?

Kimberly Simmons is gorgeous, brilliant, and way out of my league. She’s definitely not the type to fall for a guy who walked away from his family’s fortune to become an architect. Good thing, too, because she works for Wolfe Industries, making her completely off-limits. Nailing this pitch to Wolfe’s CEO is exactly what I need to make my bosses forget about the last time I mixed business with pleasure.

Too bad she has the most beautiful brown eyes and dazzling smile I’ve ever seen. Too bad I can’t stop staring.

Adam Price is a talented rising star architect at Will and Peking Designs. His newest design submission for The Wolfe Industries Caribbean Expansion is set to dazzle my CEO. If Adam’s design wins, with my help, I could get promoted, which means his big strong arms and gorgeous lips are strictly forbidden. It’s a good thing, too, because he has a reputation for leaving a trail of broken hearts all over Manhattan and I’m pretty sure I couldn’t survive a second heartbreak.

Too bad every word he says makes me smile. Too bad he gives me a sense of calm I haven’t felt in a long time.

Keeping their relationship strictly professional for the sake of their jobs was the perfect excuse to stay away from each other. Too bad fate and undeniable chemistry have other plans…

This standalone, workplace/forced proximity romance features characters from the previous novellas Everything’s Better With You and Cherishing the Goddess, is full of alphas and steam, and has NO cheating.

EXCERPT

“Too hot?” he asked. I shook my head and he slowly lowered me into the water. “I’ll grab your tea. Anything else?”

I shook my head again and leaned back sinking into the water up to my shoulders. I piled my hair on top of my head and fastened it with a tie. When he came back into the bathroom with my tea he was wearing a smile and nothing else. He slid behind me in the giant tub and I leaned back into his chest.

“Feel better?” He kissed my neck.

“Yeah, actually. Why is that?”

Adam chuckled and pointed to a bag of Epsom salts on the side of the tub. “I use it after long runs and workouts.”

“You didn’t use it earlier.”

“I was distracted by the worst burglar ever.”

I turned to face him, splashing water over the side of the tub in the process. “Burglars steal things.” I wrapped my arms around his neck.

“What makes you think you didn’t steal something?” He bit his lip and grinned at me.

“You’re lucky you’re so handsome because that was a terrible line.” I kissed him slowly and deeply, drawing his bottom lip between mine and sucking gently.

“Princess, if you’re looking for a break from sex, this is not how you get it,”

EXCERPT

Dinner had been great. The salad had been a good starter to the ravioli, which had been cooked to perfection. Now it was time to go their separate ways.

Outside the store, Simone and Cameron said goodbye to their classmates, who waved as they wandered off to their cars at the back of the building. When they were all alone, Simone fell quiet, wondering what to do next. Cameron had stuffed his hands into his pockets and looked off into the distance.

The lights inside the storefront went out, turning the spot where they stood even darker.

Simone cleared her throat. “Well…my obligation to you is over. I should call my driver, but you still have my phone.” She’d been halfway through the meal, talking and laughing at a four-top with the couple they’d worked beside, before she remembered he still held her phone.

Cameron didn’t move, and she sensed that he didn’t really want to leave any more than she did.

“So if I don’t give back your phone, you can’t call your driver?” A mischievous glint entered his eyes.

“That’s right.”

“Huh.” He rolled onto the balls of his feet.

“You’re not planning to keep me hostage, are you?” She tilted her chin in fake indignation.

“Not quite.”

“Then what did you have in mind?”

He stroked his jaw. “Well, you know, we didn’t have dessert.”

“No we didn’t. A meal like that definitely deserves dessert.”

“I was hoping you’d say that.” He grinned, such a sexy smile and one that filled her chest cavity with warmth.

Simone wasn’t just attracted to Cameron. She felt completely at ease with him—her mind at rest in a way that didn’t usually occur when she first started dating other men. Usually there was an awkward stage where she tried to get a feel for their personality, and they tried to get a feel for her. While there was a bit of that, she recognized that she was way more relaxed. Playful, teasing, open with him.

She once heard a comedian say that when you first start dating someone, you meet their “representative.” Only later do you get to know the real person. But Simone suspected that was not the case with him. This was the real Cameron and not his representative. This smiling, friendly, cooking man was the same person today that she would know six months from now. Six years from now.

Her heart tripped over the fact that she was thinking that far in advance about him.

Before she could fully examine her thoughts, Cameron said, “I know where we can get some great tiramisu.”

“Where?”

“My place.”

He answered with aplomb, as if his home were a well-known restaurant.

Pulse rate spiking, Simone played along with his game. “You made it?”

“Not this time. I picked up a nice hunk from a bakery that makes the best desserts.” He kissed his fingertips. “It’s absolutely delicious.”

“That good?”

“It’s criminal.”

“Says who?”

“Everybody.”

Simone giggled. “With an endorsement like that, I have to try it.”

He looked at her then. Really looked at her. While she couldn’t discern his thoughts, Simone guessed he was making his own internal assessment of her.

“You have to come to my house to do that. So what do you say? You want to get some dessert?”

There was much more to the question than the surface, and when he extended his hand, Simone hesitated for three seconds before taking it.

His hand swallowed hers, and sparks flew across her nerves, igniting her skin. They both tightened their fingers at the same time. He must have felt it, too. A strong attraction, a sizzling chemistry blatantly on display since the moment they met.

Simone looked down at their joined hands and the way hers fit perfectly in his, as if made to be held by him. Cameron pulled her in closer so that they almost touched.

“You ready?” he asked in a low voice.

She nodded. She was ready, for whatever would come next.

#AuthorSpotlight Sue Barnard, author of “Heathcliff”

~~~
Welcome to Nesie’s Place, Sue, and thanks for celebrating your book’s birthday with us! Where are you chatting from?
I’m originally from North Wales, but I’ve lived most of my life in and around Manchester.   I now live in Cheshire but spend a lot of my time in Anglesey.
Married with children, pets?
One husband, two sons, no pets.  Unless you include Prince – a stone frog whose home is in the flower bed next to my garden pond.
LOL! Prince definitely counts! Are you self-published, traditional, or a hybrid author?
Hybrid.  Some of my novels are traditionally published, but two of them (following reversion of rights) are now self-published via an author co-operative.
How long have you been a writer?
I’ve dabbled with writing for most of my life, but I only began to take it seriously following a life-changing event fifteen years ago.  That story would probably fill an entire book on its own.
How long did it take you to write your first book?
The first draft took about six months, but it underwent several revisions before it was eventually published.
Pantser or Plotter?
A bit of both. I try to work out a plot outline in advance, but there’s no guarantee that I’ll stick to it.  Sometimes the characters take over, and take the story in a whole new direction.  That’s what happened with my second novel, Nice Girls Don’t.
I think most of us are a bit of both inside. Have you ever taken the NaNoWriMo Challenge?
Just once.  The eventual result was my third novel, The Unkindest Cut of All, which is a murder mystery set in a theatre.  In subsequent years I’ve used NaNo to make progress with ongoing writing projects, but I haven’t officially signed up for it as I knew I wouldn’t meet the wordcount target.
What is your greatest strength as a writer? Biggest weakness?
I’m not sure that I have a biggest strength.  My biggest weakness is that I’m a terrible procrastinator.
Writers are also avid readers. Tell us what you’re reading right now?
I’m beta-reading a novel for a friend in my writing group.  I can’t say much about it except that I’m sure it will be a huge hit when it’s published.
Are you totally addicted to social media or could you live without it?
I wouldn’t describe myself as “totally addicted” to social media, but I have friends and family all over the world and I rely on it to keep in touch with them.  On a professional level I use social media to promote my books and reach out to my readers, so on that basis I don’t think I could live without it.  Having said that, I must add that although social media is a powerful friend, it’s also a dangerous enemy.  There are some very nasty people out there – more’s the pity.
What’s your next upcoming project or release?
At the time of writing, I’m working on a cosy crime novella and an ongoing poetry project based on the works of Shakespeare.  But both have been on the go for quite a while, so don’t stay in specially waiting for them to be finished!
And lastly, do you have any advice for new authors?
Enjoy your writing.  As the late great Terry Pratchett said, writing is the most fun you can have by yourself.
Many thanks to Sue for spending time with us today! Read on to learn more about Heathcliff, and a fabulous contest where UK readers could win a signed copy!
Sue BarnardAuthor Bio
Sue Barnard is a British novelist, editor and award-winning poet whose family background is far stranger than any work of fiction. She would write a book about it if she thought anybody would believe her.
Sue was born in North Wales but has spent most of her life in and around Manchester. She speaks French like a Belgian, German like a schoolgirl, and Italian and Portuguese like an Englishwoman abroad.
Her mind is so warped that she has appeared on BBC TV’s Only Connect quiz show, and she has also compiled questions for BBC Radio 4’s fiendishly difficult Round Britain Quiz. This once caused one of her sons to describe her as “professionally weird.” The label has stuck.
Sue’s first novel, The Ghostly Father (a new take on the traditional story of Romeo & Juliet), was officially released on St Valentine’s Day 2014.  Since then she has produced five more novels: Nice Girls Don’t (2014), The Unkindest Cut of All (2015), Never on Saturday (2017), Heathcliff (2018), and Finding Nina (2019).
Sue now lives in Cheshire, UK, with her extremely patient husband and a large collection of unfinished scribblings.
National Chicken Wing Day!
Banner
~~~

From NationalDayCalendar.com

~~~
History – After a number of years of different establishments selling their version of Buffalo Wings, the city of Buffalo, NY in 1977 proclaimed July 29th to be National Chicken Wing Day.  Establishments like the Anchor Bar, Wings n’ Things and Duff’s all became famous for their wings.
~~~

Wings are my favorite part of the chicken! Along with chicken breasts, they’re the only chicken I buy.

Last year, I prepared six different types of wings to celebrate #NationalChickenWingDay, but now that I’m alone, this year will be on a much lower key.

But there will still be wings… I’m ordering in!

Regardless if they’re called hot wings, buffalo wings, drummies, or wingettes, chicken wings can be ordered in just about every pizza parlor, Denny’s, IHOP, Applebee’s, Cheddar’s, and local mom and pop restaurants in the country. Even some gas station/convenience stores sell wings. Hello, Chester’s Chicken!

However, not all chicken wings are not created equal.

I’ve had wings from most of the popular franchises over the years, and while there are dozens of sauces and seasonings with cute, catchy names, many of these wing entrees have one thing in common.

They’re not cooked to an adequate doneness.

.Be it a wing, leg or thigh, chicken should pull away easily from the bone. One should not have to engage in a tug of war with a piece of meat or risk chipping a tooth. (And there has to be a bone! Keep your boneless wings to yourself! 😦  )

Yet, with so many restaurants preparing orders with timed cooking from posted charts, undone chicken is all too often the result.

It’s okay with some people, and others truly don’t know any better.

It’s unacceptable to me. I’ve had food poisoning because of improperly prepared food, and that’s not a party I plan to attend again.

So, where will I get wings to celebrate #NationalChickenWingDay?

From the only place where I’ve never been served an undone order of wings… Buffalo Wild Wings.

wings

My sons and late husband made it a point to explore the entire menu, but I’ve never ordered anything other than wings and onion rings from BWW.

And that works for me.

If you don’t already have a favorite wing stop, it could work for you too… because how could you not celebrate #NationalChickenWingDay?

Enjoy!

#CoverReveal “You Have To Believe Me” by Sunday Tomassetti

She has every reason to hate her ex …

Every day on her way home from work, Dove Damiani drives past her ex-house, where her ex-husband lives with her ex-dog and her ex-yoga instructor, next to her ex-neighbors and the ex-life she once affectionately described as “frighteningly perfect.”

To outsiders, Dove is bitter and resentful. The divorce left her alone, with nothing but a set of car keys and 50% of a paltry savings account.

…but it doesn’t mean she wants him dead.

When the lifeless body of her former husband is discovered in the birch grove outside Dove’s apartment on what would have been their fifth wedding anniversary, investigators waste no time making Dove a person of interest. She swears she didn’t do it. She’s never so much as killed a spider in her thirty years.

But as evidence mounts against her, Dove finds herself questioning her memory, her sanity, and even—her innocence.
