Song Lyric Sunday | “I Will Be” – Wynonna Judd

Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati from This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time and author Jim Adams from A Unique Title For Me is our current guest host. For complete rules or to join in the fun, click here.

This week’s theme is  Rat/Ox/Tiger/Rabbit/Dragon/Snake/Horse/Sheep/Monkey/Rooster/Dog/Pig.

I first heard I Will Be by Wynonna Judd on an episode of Army Wives almost ten years ago. She sang it during a “live” USO performance. The anthem-like song about self-awareness stuck with me and sits on several of my playlists still today.

I chose it for this week’s challenge because of the second line of the second verse: Never cross the open field for the one snake in the grass.

It’s a great song and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Fun Facts:

  • I Will Be appears on Wynonna’s 2003 album What the World Needs Now is Love.
  • The song was not released as a single.
  • I Will Be was originally recorded by country singer Lila McCann in 1999 and appears on her album, Something in the Air.

  1. I haven’t listened to Wynonna since she was part of The Judds with her mom – so I was not expecting this kind of pop sound from her. Very different from the “old country” sound she used to be known for, but I like this, very catchy and inspirational. Thanks for sharing!

      1. The woman’s always had a voice, that’s for sure, but she’s spent most of her career struggling with her self-image and learning to find and love herself, you could tell by the evolution of her music and regular ‘breaks from the spotlight’. I think that’s why this song is so great. I think she’s beautiful and talented, so I’m glad she’s still making music.
